"Gossip Girl" star Kelly Rutherford has been embroiled in an international custody battle with her German ex-husband, Daniel Giersch. This week, Rutherford suffered a big loss in French family court, TMZ reports.

The actress was likely seeking sole physical custody in order to move her children from France where they know live to the States. However, it looks like the kids will remain in France for the foreseeable future, since Rutherford's request was denied.

The summer heat has apparently claimed another victim. On Saturday, a 2-year-old girl died in a mobile home that lacked air conditioning, AZfamily.com reports.

Both the girl and her 1-year old brother appeared malnourished and dehydrated, according to police. While the investigation is still ongoing, the children's mother could face child abuse and endangerment charges depending on what the investigation turns up.

Another set of Arizona caretakers have been arrested for keeping children in disgusting conditions.

On Friday, police arrested 19-year-old Linda Reann Pinto and her 58-year-old grandmother, Linda Ruby Pinto, after finding four children living in a motor home full of mold, trash, and excrement, ABC15 News reports. Both women were arrested.

Two parents were arrested on Monday after their two children were found alone, filthy, and covered in bugs at a Peoria apartment complex, AZfamily.com reports.

Maribel Colmenero and Angel Ortiz have been charged with felony child abuse with criminal negligence. A neighbor at Sonoma Place Apartments noticed that the children, ages 3 and 4, had been left alone outside in the stifling heat for an hour. Fortunately, the property manager decided to call 911.

Son Assaults Mom in Mesa Home

Parents and their kids have argued for as long as both have existed. Luckily, few sons and daughters take it as far as Jesse Colin Holm allegedly did.

On Sunday, Holm was arrested after reportedly assaulting his mother and threatening to kill others inside his Mesa home, AZfamily.com reports. Holm has been charged with a whole range of crimes, including assault, criminal damage, and threatening and intimidating, according to authorities.

Earlier this year, Arizona joined six other states in banning abortions after 20 weeks of pregnancy. On Wednesday, however, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit granted a request by opponents of the law to temporarily halt the law’s enforcement, The Wall Street Journal reports.

In April, Gov. Jan Brewer signed the controversial bill, known as the Mother’s Health and Safety Act, but it was challenged soon after on constitutional grounds. The law is based on the theory that unborn children begin to feel pain during an abortion by at least 20-weeks gestational age.

Prescott Valley police have arrested a 39-year-old man who's accused of brutally abusing his 9-month-old child, CBS News reports.

Prescott police were called to the infant's home after the child was reportedly having difficulty breathing. Ryan Johnson, the father of the infant, has been charged with child abuse and aggravated assault, authorities say.
